As we head into the cooler months, there is a lot more sickness going around and this means it is extra important to keep your child at home if they are not well. We appreciate families notifying the office when their child is away, as we can then keep track, and for letting us know over the weekend if necessary. All of this helps to manage an ongoing situation and support all families across the school.
If your child is notified as a classroom contact, it is extremely important that you conduct a PCR or RAT test if symptoms occur, as this will help the school keep track of any transmission that may occur within classes.

As we begin Term 2, COVID-19 still has some implications for schools. Here are some reminders for parents:
- Students in Years 3 to 6 are strongly recommended to wear a mask until the end of Week 4.
- Students are to stay at home if feeling unwell (this is happening and we do appreciate this).
- If symptoms persist, you may like to do a RAT test. If your RAT test shows up negative, but symptoms do persist, another test may be a good idea.
- If you are notified as a classroom contact and develop symptoms, please obtain an RAT or PCR and let the school know.
- If your child is a personal close contact (household), please let the school know.
They can still attend school but must have five tests over seven days and stay home and test if they develop symptoms.
Thank you for your support in this matter as we continue to navigate our way through this.

Once again, a huge thank you to families who are keeping their children at home if unwell and notifying the front office. Schools are currently tracking not just students who are covid-positive, but close contacts or absentees for other reasons. We need to ensure that we are looking at classes carefully to avoid any potential spreads.
We appreciate that the easiest testing method is a RAT test and encourage you to continue doing this. However, if symptoms persist, a PCR test is much more reliable and we ask that you consider doing this as soon as possible and then let the office know. With one and a half weeks to go to the end of the term, I know many of us are looking forward to our Easter break.

A reminder that parents are no longer required to QR check in when they come to school. We still ask that parents only enter buildings if they have an appointment with teachers and they must wear a mask when indoors.
Rules have not relaxed at schools and it is important that if your child is unwell that they do not attend school. It is recommended that you do a PCR or RAT test if your child has any symptoms. Some families have reached out and asked what symptoms they should be looking for. SA Health has stated the following: fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, loss of smell/taste, muscle/joint pains, diarrhoea, nausea/vomiting or extreme tiredness.
If your child tests positive, please notify me as soon as possible so the correct directions can be implemented. Even if this is over the weekend, please ensure that I am notified to avoid any spread within the class. We are being extremely vigilant at present and are sending students home if they are unwell.
The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff are paramount, and while we recognise this can be disruptive and inconvenient for many families, it is important that we follow SA Health advice and take all necessary precautions to minimise the risk of transmission within our community. We thank you for your support of this.
It is a timely reminder that this week, I was sent an email from the Department reminding me about the ThankED initiative by our Department. I would like to ACKNOWLEDGE and THANK all Parkside Primary School staff for their professionalism over the last seven weeks. Every day they come to school ready to teach and support students and each other, regardless of what is happening. They are constantly being creative and ensuring the wellbeing of students and families is paramount.
ThankED gives you the chance to celebrate and thank public educators, as well as those people who work in support of them.
You can say thanks any time to anyone working in public education who has made a difference to you – visit www.education.sa.gov.au/ThankED.

As we continue to be guided by the Department’s recommendations, a reminder that if your child is not feeling well, or is showing even the mildest symptoms, we recommend that you do a PCR or RAT test. We are directed to ask parents to come and collect their child if they are not feeling well and showing cold-like symptoms. We appreciate your support of this.
Some things were able to resume this week. This includes excursions and incursions, and some volunteers can return on-site. We are now able to hold assemblies outdoors only. Our first one will be Friday next week. Parents of the class hosting the assembly will be able to stand and view with masks on.
Kind Regards,
