Sports

Sports Overview

The school has a strong commitment to sport and has established numerous sports teams that are managed by parent volunteers. In some circumstances Parkside combines with other local schools to form teams. This ensures that everyone has the opportunity to participate in a sport of their choice. Some students are members of local club teams. The school is an affiliated member of SAPSASA.

Sports Activities

Sports offered to students include basketball, football, soccer, hockey, korfball, and cricket. The students are provided with opportunities to represent the school in both team and individual sporting activities including the District Athletics and Cross-Country Days.

Active After School Communities is an important after school hours physical activity programme for students. It is a Commonwealth funded programme and involves local sporting clubs and individuals working with our students. Coaches from sports identified by the students themselves visit the School each term to run eight week sporting programmes.

All classes are involved in annual swimming and aquatic programmes as part of the school’s Physical Education programme. Reception to Year 5 students attend five swimming lessons over a designated week during the year, while the Year 6s spend two days in Term 4 at the Port Noarlunga Aquatic Centre to undertake a range of aquatic activities based on choices and interests.

Athletic Sports Days are held in alternate years.

Private tennis coaching sessions are also provided after school hours.
